Tinnitus cause and relief?
A few years back, when I was a teenager, I went to my doctor because I had a loud clicking sound in my ears every time I swallowed. He said it was from clogged eustachian tubes and had me stand over a running tea kettle every night for a while. That didn't do anything other than make me look silly, so I went back and he sent me to an ENT specialist, who prescribed Nasacort spray. I sprayed this up my nose for several months but it never helped at all so I stopped getting it and got used to the clicking. The doctors suggested it was from the shape of my eustachian tubes, not allowing proper drainage, and nothing could be done about it.
About a year ago, when I was 21, my ears began to have a low constant ring. Also when I get sick, they get sore. I went back to my doctor and he said it was the same problem I had a few years back… my lack of proper drainage. He just had me try the tea kettle thing again and prescribed me something, but the Rite-Aid pharmacist said that the stuff he prescribed was available in over-the-counter cough medicine and I should just buy that (which I was kind of skeptical of, does that sound right?), and told me to come back if it didn't work (I never did, I'm not really happy with him).
The ringing is still here, and it is especially intense now because I am sick. I don't notice it most of the time even though it is constant, but it is worse when I lie down, and makes it kind of hard for me to fall sleep at times.
What should I do about this? Is my doctor probably correct about the cause (he didn't really check me out, just looked at my record)? I'm also worried because I have the clicking and now the ringing, and I don't know what could happen next if anything.
Thank you!
